The Junkers Ju88 was a bomber capable of both level and dive bombing attacks and was used for a variety of purposes, taking advantage of its excellent maneuverability and top speed for a twin-engine bomber. It was used from the start of the war until its end with a total production of approximately 15,000 aircraft, third only to the Bf109 and Fw190. The Ju88A-4, which was deployed to units from around the summer of 1940 had a wingspan of 20.08m, up from the Ju88A-1's 18.375m and its weight had increased, but the engine was replaced with a more powerful Jumo 211F/J giving it a faster maximum speed than the A-1.
