The Handley Page Hampden was a British twin-engined World War II medium bomber, the prototype of which first flew in 1936. The aircraft was powered by two Bristol Pegasus XVII radial engines, each with an output of 1,000 horsepower. Serial production took place between 1938 and 1941.

At the beginning of World War II, these aircraft participated in daytime operations over Germany, but suffered significant losses due to weak defensive armament and insufficient armor. As a result, it was decided that the aircraft would be used only as night or torpedo bombers.
