The 17th Experimental Carrier Fighter (later named the Experimental Reppu), planned as a successor to the Zero fighter, was, as the name suggests, a requirement submitted by the Navy in 1942. The design was plagued by the excessive performance requirements and limited scope for engine selection. Furthermore, due to the preoccupation with the production and modification of the Zero fighter and Raiden, which were currently in service, the first prototype was not completed until April 1944. While its maneuverability and flight stability were highly praised on its maiden flight, its speed and climb performance fell far short of the required figures due to insufficient engine power, and modifications continued until the end of the war.
The finished product is 228mm long, 291mm wide, and contains approximately 80 parts.
It also includes standing figures of the pilot, mechanic, and officer seated in the cockpit.
