Historical background:
The F-4K was the first Phantom variant adapted for operations from British aircraft carriers such as HMS Ark Royal, with reinforced landing gear and Spey engines optimized for shorter decks. After carrier operations ended in 1978, all F-4Ks were transferred to the RAF, where they served as front-line interceptors until the early 1990s.
