By the end of March 1937, 100 Panzer II Ausf. b. tanks with the serial numbers 21001-21100 were manufactured at the MAN plant in Nuremberg. Similar to the earlier versions, Panzer II Ausf. a1, a2, a3, the Panzer II Ausf. b. tank was intended to provide fire support with its 20 mm anti-tank gun to Panzer I tanks armed with only two 7.92 mm machine guns.
